Historique :	Ce retable, avec son tabernacle et les deux gradins d'autel, a été commandé aux sculpteurs Bertrand Buxeraud et Jacques Mouret le 4 août 1682 par Monseigneur de Lascaris d'Urfé, évêque de Limoges, pour la chapelle du séminaire des Ordinands (actuelle église Sainte-Marie). Suite au décès de Bertrand Buxeraud, sa veuve passa un traité avec le maître-menuisier Mathieu Galerne le 11 août 1683. L'ensemble fut réceptionné en 1687. Le tableau, quant à lui, fut peint par Jean Restout qui l'exposa au Salon en 1740.
